STAT Overview
The SpecialTertiaryAdmissionsTest
(STAT) is one of the main criteria used for determining entry by many universities in Victoria
and around Australia for students who do not meet the formal academic requirements of university entry.
The STAT takes 2 hours and consists of 70 multiple choice questions designed to assess
competency for tertiary study. The test is written by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) and is processed by the
Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC).
To register to sit the test please visit VTAC
Students are advised to obtain a copy of the VTAC Guide 2005 from local Newsagents and become familiar with the application procedure for sitting the STAT. As part of the course VEP will go through the application process in detail.
The STAT is an aptitude test rather than an intelligence quotient (IQ) test and requires the
manipulation of given information at a sophisticated level. It is a test that adults with little academic background can do very well
in, but it is challenging.
